Question: Write an Essay on Motivation. Answer: Introduction It is believed that the overall productivity of employees depends on the motivation level of employees. Therefore, it is important that the organizations should develop a culture where employees can work with high productivity levels. The Maslow hierarchy suggests that people can have different needs and likewise the motivation factors could also differ for different employees. The organizational leaders should be able to realize the motivation drivers for employees at different levels. It is correctly said that employees are an organizations best assets and without motivated employees, organizations cannot achieve their overall objectives. The objective of this paper is to analyze and discuss the impact of motivation on organizational effectiveness. Analysis It would be correct to say that communication and leadership play an enormous role in keeping employees motivated and this does affect productivity. As relayed in the textbook, Daft (2013) explains not only does effective communication lead to better bottom-line results, but also managers spend 80 percent of the day in communication with others. It is up to the manager to know what method of communication will offer the clearest understanding. The manager is also responsible for engaging the team and providing a strategic vision that motivates them. In recent times, organizations and leaders have realized that it is still easy to manage the team in a local region or small company. By rotating responsibility for planning and setting goals individuals become more invested in the team. Different approaches work on different people. It is important that a leader must be firm and have conviction, but also flexible to adjust to different situations and personalities. A leader should have many tools at his disposal and pull out the appropriate tool at the appropriate time. The foundation of the leadership is built on relationships between the leaders and the subordinates (Dion, 2012). These relationships are two-way streets with mutual respect and communication that is open and honest; thi s helps establish strong ties between the leader and the subordinates. Virtual teams can optimize their work together by learning how to use a variety of electronic communication media strategically. In an organizational setting, motivation of employees would also depend on the abilities of leaders to keep employees motivated. In recent times, leaders have started to focus on value-based leadership to keep employees motivated. According to Trevio, Brown, and Hartman (2003), it is critical for leaders to have deeply instilled values and beliefs in order to mold organizational culture where employees can have high productivity levels. However, in addition to strong individualized codes of ethics, leaders must utilize an effective communication strategy and rewards system to promote ethical culture among organizational members. Many people complain that censorship is the violation of the first amendment and the suppression of freedom of speech but there is a point where freedom of speech becomes corrupt; freedom of speech only creates an excuse for the vile pornographers to poison our nation let alone our children. Pornography is regarded as immoral and downright filthy by the people. It denies human dignity and often stimulates the user to violent acts (Beahm 295). Therefore, pornography and violence are correlated. It trivializes the human beauty and converts it into commercialized slime (Beahm 295). Moreover, the consumption of pornography can lead to a detrimental addiction and the consumer can become a slave to it (Beahm 297). In short, pornography is a very addictive drug; which has an equal or more potency to hard-core drugs like heroin and cocaine. Can you imagine a ten year-old innocently surfing the Internet and suddenly bumps into a pornographic site depicting explicit images of naked women and becoming addicted to it? The damage is long-term and when the time comes, we will have a nation of perverts. Galbraith says, "The U.S. constitution does not forbid the protection of children from a pornographer's freedom of speech. That must be inferred through the First Amendment." These are our children and we have the right to protect them. The fact that pornography is damaging mentally is further aggravated as the availability of pornography to all Internet users is a major problem as well. The ridiculously easy accessibility to all types pornography; by anyone who logs into the Internet has raised a major concern from both the government and the public. The Internet, being the biggest interactive library ever existed, has no owner, President, chief operating officer or pope (Montoya). "Inevitably, being an uncontrolled system, means that the Internet will be subjected to subversive applications of some unscrupulous users." (Kershaw) Internet users can publish pornography and hate literature that information is literally made available to millions of Internet users worldwide (Kershaw). A five year-old can easily obtain pornography on the Internet by just typing the word "sex" in the search engine and literally hundreds of thousands of listing will appear on-screen, each leading to a smut page. This type of easy accessibility have people calling for censorship (Kershaw). "Most popular images available were of hardcore scenes featuring such acts as paedophilia, defection, bestiality and bondage." (Kershaw) According to Chidley, "In 1994, more than 450,000 pornographic images and text files were available to the Internet users around the world; that information had been accessed more than 6 million times." (58) This shocking figure is further agitated by the fact that pornography would be very harmful to the young unsuspecting child who happens to stumble on it while roaming about cyberspace (Kershaw). Remember, our children is our most important resource in the future; we have to refrain them from negative influences so that they could be good citizens of tomorrow. "Regulating the Internet might be the only way to protect Internet users including our children from accessing obscene pages." In order to attract the right person for the job, it is crucial to have key job expectations already in place so the applicant knows exactly what they are getting themselves into. If you need someone to carry out a series of jobs, then it is important to detail all this in the interview room. If the job instructions are not explained in-depth, then you will likely hire someone who only meets some of your expectations (Vielhaber and Camp 40). However, if a manager chooses to explain the job duties only during the interview, then the job hiring process can be slowed down as potential candidates may not be suit able for the job. This in turn costs the business through lost opportunities and additional recruiting costs. These failures can be seen from the very beginningââ¬âdesigning the job (Rao). The ideal time to define the job tasks that are required is before the applicant turns up for an interview. Then, the job seeker can query any confusing job requirements during the interview. This is otherwise known as a job description. ... To determine whether or not these responsibilities are carried out in an effective manner, performance standards need to be created. Performance standards indicate what the job accomplishes and how performance is measured in key areas of the job description (Mathis and Jackson 156). The reason that these performance standards are included is so employees can know what is expected of them. If they gain this knowledge beforehand, it is more likely that they will be able to perform the job to a high standard. A usual job description contains a number of components: identification, general summary, essential functions and duties, job specifications, and disclaimer and approvals (Mathis and Jackson 157). Identification is made up of the title of the job, who to report to, department, location, pay grade, and possible compensation. The general summary is a short description of the responsibilities and components specific to a particular job. Essential functions and duties are definitive st atements on the major tasks, duties, and responsibilities that need to be performed. Job specifications are defined as knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs), education and experience, and physical requirements and working conditions (Mathis and Jackson 157). Disclaimer and approvals contain signatures from the manager that allows employers to change employeesââ¬â¢ job duties. Employers need to show that their employment procedures are related to the job requirements. To determine this, employers must conduct a job analysis to classify the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) needed to be able to perform a job adequately (Mathis and Jackson 116).
